Women’s Programme.  Working in a Non-Traditional Environment (UK)  

This programme is for women who are considering returning to, or changing, work and encourages learners to think about opportunities in non-traditional employment.  Central to the programme is the new Open College Network Qualification:  Working in a Non-Traditional Environment (level 1 at 3 credits and level 2 at 3 credits).  The programme includes self-awareness, building a curriculum vitae, assertiveness training, stress management and time management.  The programme looks at the context of working in non-traditional employment but is inclusive of home and employment in general. 

This is a 30 hour programme designed to be delivered over eight weeks with seven 2-hour sessions, one 4-hour workshop and 12-hours of work to be completed at home.  Generally self-study at home is in the form of research, observation and practice sessions.  However, the package is intended as a guide and has useful activities and worksheets to accompany each session.  You may want to ‘mix-and-match’ the activities, interlacing your own ‘tried and tested’ within the programme.

The idea of the workshop is to raise awareness about gender roles and how they influence planning one’s life. In the workshop different methods are used: discussions, teamwork, individual work, lectures, strategy game and quiz. The concept contains two modules of 2,5 hours, so it can be integrated into any other concept.
